Start a Printing Store

by Chrysovalantis Mitsakos

Even with all the capability of a home computer and a printer, people still flock to printing stores for many things. Wedding invitations, personalized stationary and business cards are all items that can be easily purchased at a printing store for a reasonable cost. Have you ever considering the idea of starting a printing store? It’s actually a low investment opportunity that can reap lucrative rewards.

The best place to start a printing store is in a neighborhood or area where one doesn’t exist. Obviously the reasoning behind this is straightforward – people are more apt to purchase something special ordered at a location near their home. So you’ll want to find a space that has both curb side appeal and also ample room for the equipment you’ll need along with the merchandise you’ll want to display.

One area where a printing store can really draw in a lot of business is in providing copies. There are two ways to go about this and it’s best to offer both. Purchasing a few easy to use photocopy machines when you start a printing store is a good investment. Setting these up in an area that is easily accessible to customers allows them to make their own copies for pennies. This is a great way to lure people into the store.

In addition when you start a printing store you’ll want to offer the option of printing large copy orders. This is a great resource for local businesses and if you do a quality job you are likely to get repeat business as well as referral business.

Offering other items such as custom order invitations and stationary is also appealing. When you start a printing store it makes good business sense to sit down and consider all the different products you’d like to supply to your customers.

When you are doing this think outside the box and perhaps consider offering some novelty items. These may include things like printed t-shirts and large posters. It can be profitable to entice your customers into bringing in a picture they have of themselves or a loved one and having that copied onto a t-shirt or poster. Many people don’t realize how affordable this is and once they do, they are bound to come back again and again for every special occasion that arises.

If you constantly produce quality work and ensure that every customer who leaves your store does so satisfied, you’ve likely got a great little business that will last for years to come.
