The Advantages of a Franchise Business
by Chrysovalantis Mitsakos
When it comes to starting your own business you may do well to consider teaming up with a franchise. There are many lucrative franchise opportunities available and with all the extra support and guidance you receive from many of them, the investment is often well worth the cost.
Typically when you decide you want to open a franchise business you have to go through an approval process. This involves meeting with a company representative to discuss all aspects of the franchise business as well as what is expected of you. During this initial meeting you’ll be queried about how you intend to pay the franchise fees as well as your history in business management. This is a great opportunity for the potential owner to ask any and all questions they may have that pertain to purchasing and running the franchise.
Many people find it lucrative to partner with another in a franchise. Often you’ll see entire families purchasing a franchise together. This works well as everyone is there to support one another and learn the ropes together.
Financing is typically required in order to purchase the franchise. Some franchises require outside financing which can be secured through a bank or trust company. Others have financing arrangements available. In the latter case you can expect to pay more interest but this may be a good alternative if you aren’t a good condition for traditional loans.
Training is usually provided for the first few weeks. Many franchise businesses have arrangements in place which allow new owners to visit an established store for a week or more. This gives them the opportunity
to see a franchise in action and also to spend time understanding every aspect of the day-to-day operations.
Once the owner is ready to open their own franchise a company representative is traditionally sent to lend a hand. They will assist in whatever capacity they can, including training new staff and helping with marketing ideas.
Having a well-known franchise behind them gives many business owners the confidence they need to step out into their own venture. Although the franchise does usually require a percentage of revenue each year this should be viewed as a small price to pay to have the ability to use the name and sell the product. Many people who own a franchise go on to purchase more. Millions have been made many times over by franchise owners all over the globe.
