How to Start your Own House Cleaning Business

by Gianna Lazarou

Everyone loves to be at the leisure of his or her own home. A home’s comfort and warmth is beyond compare. But there’s one thing that is always dreaded when it comes to housekeeping –cleaning!

For most people cleaning is a grueling and tedious task. Housekeepers just want to sit back and enjoy their home without the pain and hassle of cleaning the house themselves. This is why a residential cleaning business is very practical and profitable.

Starting your very own home cleaning company should not be that hard at all. All you really need to is to hire a hardworking staff and purchase a complete package of cleaning supplies. You really just need a small investment; around $200- $1000 would be enough to buy the supplies you need.

A quick list of the supplies you need would include furniture polish, window cleaners, rags, soft scrubs, anti-bacterial cleaners, steel cleaner, wood cleaners and tile cleaners. Take note that some customers request that you use their preferred brand of cleaners. You can also opt to use your clients’ vacuum. You also need cleaning materials like mops, brooms, dustpans, dust mops, wood floor mops and grout brushes. Be sure that you buy a supply caddy that can keep your cleaning materials organized. Remember to label all your cleaning materials properly.

Hiring your staff can be a tricky part. It may be advisable that you select just one or two full timers and the rest should be reliable freelancers. During the start of your business, clients may be not too many. It’s not recommended to get an army of workers that you might not be able to pay in the long run. You can allow them to clean your house to show you what they can do. Train your staff as often as you can.

Whenever starting a business, start humbly and keep things simple. Make an extensive and detailed list of the services you offer along with their corresponding rates.  Just like the usual business, make your small company legitimate by securing all the needed business permits and requirements.

Advertising your residential cleaning business is very crucial. Initially, it is best to offer you services in your own neighborhood. As a start you can tell your friends or relatives that you are coming up with such a service. Ask them to spread the word and refer you to other people that might need your service.

You can send out flyers and posters in key areas in your community. Laundry shops, hair salons, bakeries and food shops are a few places you can start with. You can also place a small flyer on car windows if you want to. Try to post small ads on your local newspapers. You can also opt to set up your very own website to attract more customers. Make sure to hand out professional business cards to all your clients so they can call you whenever they need your service.

Always see to it that you only offer the best cleaning service to your clients. This way, your quality service would spread around town and in no time clients would come knocking on your door to plead for your superb cleaning service.
