Customer Service and Restaurant Branding
by Lazaros Chasomeris
We live in a world where branding has become a way of life. Products are carefully placed in popular magazines, on television and recently even in the movies. Branding is everywhere and that includes the world of restaurants.
Customer service and restaurant branding go hand-in-hand. When a person spots a specific restaurant be it a well-known fast food establishment or a corner coffee bar, they expect to find certain things when they walk inside.
When a restaurant carries a world renowned name the customer service should reflect that name. People expect certain things which may include:
· A specific menu item. Many of the well known restaurants are independently owned. Customers don’t realize this when they decide to visit for lunch or dinner. They want the same menu items that they’ve consumed in other restaurants carrying the same name. · A certain level of service. The customers who enter any restaurant are expecting a good and pleasant dining experience. If they are visiting a new location of a restaurant that they’ve been to before, they expect to be treated in much the same way. If a customer has an uncomfortable experience they are less likely to visit any restaurant carrying the same name again. · Similar price structure. People want to know what to expect when they visit a restaurant. Most people work on a budget and expect to pay a certain price, especially if they’ve visited another branch of the same restaurant in the past.
Restaurant branding is an effective way of creating a welcoming atmosphere for customers. If a person has had a positive experience at a restaurant in the past they are more likely to return. The
customer service they receive automatically becomes associated with the restaurant brand in their mind. They will long remember a negative experience with a staff member and it will more than likely result in them not visiting that restaurant chain again.
Present a welcoming environment to your customers and they will immediately associate your restaurant with great service. If you are representing a restaurant name you must provide a level of customer service that reflects that. By showing your customers the respect that they deserve you are setting the stage for them to return time and time again. You will also be guaranteeing word of mouth advertising which no amount of money can buy you.
Customer service is an integral part of restaurant branding and when your employees realize this, you will be sure to prosper.
