Setting and achieving goals
by Gianna Lazarou
Understanding the concept of goal setting is crucial for you to get what you want
Be Specific in your goal setting Measure the results, have you attained your goal? Be realistic, you need to know you can achieve your goal, as confidence is key Set a time limit, 10, 9, 8,…… Make stepping stone goals
Be Specific in your goal setting If you are specific in your goal setting you will find it easier to know what you need to do to achieve it. Specific goal setting also means you know exactly what you are aiming for and the path to achieve it.
Measure the results, have you attained your goal? How far are you away from attaining your goal? You need to measure your progress daily to give you the confidence of knowing how close your goal is. A larger goal will be made up of smaller, stepping stone goals. Knowing when your smaller goals have been achieved means you are closer to your goal.
Make stepping stone goals A smaller goal can be a stepping stone to a larger goal, if enough small goals are part of the attainment of a larger goal, there is more likelihood of the larger goal being achieved. A smaller goal is easier to achieve, you will be more confident in achieving it. If enough smaller goals are achieved you end up with a larger goal.
Be realistic, you need to know you can achieve your goal, as confidence is key Write down your goals and evaluate them, making sure they are realistic and it is what you really want. The more specific you are in your goal setting the more likely it will be achieved. If you set unrealistic goals your
sub-conscious will know it is impossible and will sabotage any movement towards the goal. It is possible to set a goal that you are not sure about. Be ruthless with which goals you set, making sure it’s what you want.;
Keep a goal diary, noting down what you think you may want and then breaking the goal down into smaller, stepping stone goals. Each time a smaller goal is attained make a note of it. Knowing you are closer to your larger goal will give you the confidence to keep going until you achieve the larger goal.
Sometimes the reasons for having a goal will change and the goal will no longer be needed. DO not be afraid to ditch the goal or to realign it. Remember, the goal exists for your benefit, not the other way round. |
