Effective Time Management

The initial steps for an effective time management are the following:
_Create a "to do list"
_Prioritise your "to do list"
_Manage your time into smaller pieces
_Start your important tasks


Make your “"to do list"” a daily occurrence. Making it a habit will help you not to forget.

Create a “"to do list"”

Categorise your “"to do list"” into A, B, and C. A for what absolutely has to be done right now, B is important but not urgent and C should be done only if the A and B have been done.
It might be a good idea to colour code your ABC list, use different pens to quickly see what is important and what is not.

Prioritise your "to do list"

Every day revise your "to do list". Items which you failed to do the previous day should be brought forward.

Be thorough in choosing your priorities, if an item is constantly forwarded to the next day and is only a C, then perhaps it should be dropped from your "to do list".

Rewrite your daily list at the end of the day, rather than wait for the next morning. As this will allow you to start the day

It may be that items that are not important are taking up too much thinking time, if they can be done quickly then it would be better that they are completed and gotten out of the way.

Manage your time into smaller pieces

Chopping your time up into smaller pieces will help you to plan more. Smaller jobs can easily fit in, whilst bigger jobs can be divided into manageable pieces. A large job can be quite intimidating unless reduced to smaller sections.

If you have only a short period of time available, chopping up your bigger job into small bits will allow you to complete important sections of the bigger job.

Start your important tasks

Some tasks have to be completed urgently. If these are big tasks and you have difficulty getting them started, try using smaller units of time to get things going. Rather than allotting a huge chunk of time and then avoiding it. Only allot 15 minutes, you can then use this time to either plan how to tackle a huge project, chunking it down into manageable units, or taking the time to complete one unit of the bigger task. Getting the ball rolling like this will free up and issues you have with completing the task. It will help you get excited by the project and hopefully no longer be intimidated by it.
