How to Effectively Advertise Your Business in Trade Shows

by Gianna Lazarou

Joining trade shows is very helpful in promoting your business. Always keep up with the schedules of trade shows in your neighborhood. This would help you build your customer database. Joining trade shows can also be one way to know your competition. But your top goal should always be to show off your products or services and of course, to sell your goods and accept clients.

Trade shows can cost you some expenses. You have to pay for exhibitor’s fees, travel expenses and your staff’s time including their meals for the day. If you are thinking of joining one of your town’s local trade shows, take time to plan it. Here are some suggested steps that you need to follow:

Know your purpose.
Identifying your objectives will help you in planning the whole concept of your exhibit. Are you there to introduce your new business? Are you planning to get in more sales and clients? Are you trying to keep up with your competition? Your purpose would direct you on how you would create your marketing strategy, design, and your budget for the event.

Advertise before the event.
Before going to trade shows, most people already have in mind what booths they plan to visit. This is why a pre-show marketing strategy is needed. Send out a word that you would be participating in your town’s upcoming trade show. You can opt to be a sponsor of the trade show to get exposure when they promote the event in television, radio or newspapers. You can inform your existing clients and invite them to the show. Giving away flyers would also help.

Make an impression.
Your booth should hoard in a lot of possible clients to your stall. To do this, you should have an attractive design and lay out. Your branding should be all over the place so people would have a strong recall of what your company is. Make a slogan that state what your company offers. Choose visible colors for your signs

Give out brochures.
The most effective brochures is a brief one pager. Do away with long description of your company. Keep it brief and simple. Remember to include all your contact details. You can give out brochures to passersby and place some on your booth desk.

Welcome visitors.
Your booth should have a small client’s area where you can entertain your customers. Make your booth spacious to allow for elbowroom. Place some reading materials or anything they can browse.

Be generous with giveaways
Give your clients something that they can bring home as souvenirs. These can be key chains, t-shirts, mouse pads, pens or anything that can be of use. Giveaways are not only tokens of appreciation but they can also effectively promote you company. Make sure to have your business name and contact details printed on them.

Do a follow up.
Make sure that you make a list of the contacts during the trade show. Give these contacts a call on a suitable time and talk to them about the services you offer days after the trade show.

Trade shows can definitely give your business more exposure. Give it a careful thought and allot enough time to prepare for it. If you get into one, don’t waste your chance and show off what you can offer your clients and leave a good impression.
